Lily

Lily is also a Dexter mixed with Highland cow. She is a heifer. A girl cow. She’s black with a white, lily-shaped marking in the fur on her forehead. She’s very intelligent and laps up knowledge. I used to think that she was better than me because her brain is so amazing, and when we were young calves she knew so much more than me.

But I’ve realised on my journey that I was able to become brighter and cleverer because of what I chose to find out about. Knowledge is a powerful thing, and everyone can find it if they look. Reading is a brilliant way to find things out. Those of you who have read the book will know that I learnt to read. I won’t tell you what happened to Lily on the journey that we went on. But just to say she got even cleverer than she was at the beginning of it all.
